maybe a hamster or guinea pig?
    or some type of lizard?
if you ask him, I’m sure he already knows what type of pet he wants.

I think a dog. Not a big dog, a small one that sleeps inside. Get it as a puppy so that your son and the puppy grow up together.
I watched a t.v show once of a boy that took fits and his parents got a puppy for him. As the dog got older, the dog knew when he was about to have a fit and would start warning the parents by barking flat out and running around in circles. So that is why I think dogs are a great pet to have.

A cat may be a good idea, because it could climb up easily in his lap without assistance and doesn’t wiegh much. Or a beagle/dotson mix, we have one and she is faily docile and likes to be held and petted and go for short walks, but she does shed a lot. I recommend going to your local pet shelter, they would be familiar with the personality traits of all of their animals and could recommend one on particular to you that would fit with your son’s needs.
