Are you a marketer or promoter ?

1. Are you a marketer or promoter? by Robert Nixon

There are hundreds of thousands of people accessing the internet for the first time everyday. Do you remember when you did? Do you remember what you did?

When you first get onto the internet it really is exciting !! The whole world seems to open up before your very eyes and is right there in front of you on your display screen. You enter some keywords in your search bar and start checking out the results. After awhile, you start entering url's for places you find in the newspapers, hear about on the radio or TV, or find out about from friends or e-mail. You find chat rooms, so you can talk to other people and you play games. You set up things like weather for your area, road conditions and traffic, as favorites. You go to places to purchase what you need at a better price than you can find it locally ( or at least you think so ).

For many that is as far as it goes. This maybe ninety percent of the people that are on the internet at any given time.

For some, they want to get part of the 'action' and make money. They have heard about all the scams and believe that they are different and won't fall for any of those. So they think of something they need and look for places they can become a 'rep' for in order to make money on the re-sell.

The secret is repeat business and residual income.

Most of the real scammers are gone nowadays, tho not all. (There will always be a good con artist out there, just like in real life). The better companies will provide you with great support and ideas on how to increase sales. Most of these work, if you don't give up before you give them a chance to and you follow the program.

YOU have to network.

When many first start. They make out their list of, friends, family, and business associates. They will purchase brochures, get business cards and even get that 'great' affiliate site and e-mail, for a small additional cost in most cases from the maker of the product or provider of the service. They contact the people on their list and attempt to sell their items to them. If they have the right product they may make a few sales this way, and most companies you are re-selling for know this and tell you to do this. These first few sales is what gets everyone 'hooked', they were fairly easy and although not everyone you know bought the item, there was a positive response.

Surely just by doing some promotions on the internet the sales will skyrocket. Too many think 'marketing' is the same a 'promotions'. These two concepts go hand in hand and you can not have one without the other. But they are not the same, never have been and never will be. 1. Marketing Marketing is what people see on your site when they first see it on their display. It is also the type of people you want to purchase from you, as they have searched for your type of product. ( you did not have to advertise, or promote, in order for them to find you). They are your 'niche market'.

One of every ten will purchase from you, but very few the first time they visit. Most will go to several sites, look around them and find what they desire, or something very close, and get the cheapest. Some will be looking for a specific item and if you have it, they will purchase it no matter the cost, if it is within reason. Again, you may make a couple of quick sales, or get a sign up or two. But then nothing. Many get dismayed at this point and move on to something else to 'market' with the same results. After awhile, they learn they are putting out more of their pocket than they are bringing in. So they blame the products, quit the programs and repeat the same mistakes over and over again until they quit, OR they will look only for those that will find a 'market' for them...thus in your mind you are a marketer now. You have confused what you are doing, for now you are a salesman and are looking for other salesmen to sell for you.

So go out and flood the net,not with your product ads but ads looking for 'marketers' (salesmen). You purchase lists, send out thousands of 'phising e-mails' and make many, many phone calls to potential 'clients'. You know.....'ARE you really interested in starting a home business'?,,,,,etc....etc....etc. For most, they get caught in this trap and the cycle repeats itself over and over.

After awhile and some loss of investment, they quit. NOW what they do is spread the word about how they didn't fail but got taken by so and so or such and such a product.

One percent of the last one percent that are left, wake up and take a hard look at what has happened. Are they successful finding salesmen or buyers? Are they making money with the small, and maybe one time payment of a 'finders fee' paid for getting new salesmen? Is finding new salesmen getting harder and harder? Do you have the money to invest in an affiliate master program, so you are no longer a 'middle man'?

This leads to something else entirely.

2. Promotions Promotions is how you found what you were looking to purchase in the first place. Now all you have to do is do the same and others will find you.

You find that you now have a whole new concept to learn, first of all, how the internet works. The internet is a giant 'cross reference' dictionary. Your website ( url ), is where your potential clients will be sent when they find you. Getting listed, or indexed, is now your goal.

AND find you they will,a percentage of the hundreds of thousands of new people getting on the internet every day that get into more than the games and etc. mentioned above will see your site, if it is promoted correctly and set up for ease of the 'search engines' to list your site in the 'results'.

Now you want to 'stream-line' your site and have your visitors purchase your products in a fast and easy manner. You are now getting the idea, you will make more from the comission of selling a product. If the product is something, someone wants, or needs, on a regular basis, this is called 'residual income'.

Many businesses make enough on ONE season to see them over to the next ( usually Christmas) but it all depends upon the business and the products they have for purchase.

If your products are items people need 'year round' then getting your site a better ranking ( that is indexed higher ( or lower page number)) is what you want to achieve. IF the use of the product ( it's benefit) is of primary concern to your client, then the cost ( if in reason ) won't matter as much as you may think. NOW, is the time to ask your REPEAT customers if they want to make money by making referrals.

Website promotions is not hard but it does take knowledge and determination to spend a couple hours a day to achieve.
