IF I Could Write Than Maybe I Could.......

IF I Could Write Than Maybe I Could....... By Heston Nolan

The constitution of the United States guarantees every person living in the U.S. the freedom to say almost anything he or she wishes to say. Further, a person is protected by law to write almost anything he or she wishes to write. Then why are most people afraid to write? Is it such a difficult skill that very few will attempt it? True, there are many sub-skills that go together to produce a writer, such as, the proper use of grammer, good spelling attributes, knowledge of punctuation, the command of a good vocabulary and above all the ability to use reference material. Most of these should have been learned in High School. Those of you that have a few miles on you since you were in High School will find the need for a refresher course in these subjects very beneficial.

There are three major skills I have not mentioned because I wish to expound on them. Number one-a person that writes a great deal or wants to write a great deal should have good typing skills. It is obvious that all entries to be placed on the internet must be typed (excluding the vocal inputs that are becoming available). It is too time consuming to type everything with one finger unless you have a very fast finger. There are good typing tutorials available on the net. You may pick up a short typing course at night school or a self-teaching course at the library or bookstore.

The second of the three skills is a skill that may be devel- oped through the use of the third skill. The second skill is "focus" and the third skill is "practice".

Focus is an acquired ability to use one's knowledge effectively and readily in the execution or performance of learned tasks. One way of developing "Focus" is called- Mind Mapping, also known as 'Radiant Thinking'. It is a technique developed by Tony Buzan in the 1970's. A Mind Map consists of a central word or concept, with 5 to 10 main ideas radiating out from the central concept. If you wish to know more about Mind Mapping then send me an email mailto:cnolan611@email.com with "Mind Map" in the subject and I will send you a great article:

The third skill is not actually a skill; it is the condition of being proficient through systematic exercise. Simply, it is practice. Not simply, it is the most important of all the learned skills as it is the avenue one must take to "get to there, from here" It is the primus inter pares n [L] : the first among equals.

Practice may be achieved in pre-determined sessions of different lengths and different difficulties starting from short and easy and progressing to long and complicated. Sessions should be scheduled as if you were attending a school. Develope a schedule and stick to it.

A second party should be approached to evaluate your writings. Get someone to give you a critical view. Compliments are frequently given to avoid hurting a persons feelings and are of no value to help you improve your writing skills. Put it all together and it spells "articles", e-books, ads! These can be used to promote your business or programs which in turn can make you financially HAPPY! Most of all-don't be fearful. Fear is not a rung on the Ladder2Success!
