Pitfalls of Internet MarketingHave you seen articles on the problems facing those of us who no longer leave home at 7 am and clock in at a "regular" job? They usually focus on ways to get motivated, to avoid the temptations that sabotage a home based business such as sleeping in, chatting with retired (or pretty) neighbors, mowing the lawn, all before booting up the computer.I don't believe these articles. The home based entrepreneurs I know are hard workers serious about making money online. They may be unshaved and in their underwear, but they're at work at the crack of dawn. That 95% we keep hearing about who are failing are working very hard and have been for some time. Let's look at some real pitfalls and see if any are familiar to you. You boot up after a cursory look at the business section of the newspaper over cereal. You check your daily goals. You're promoting a mirror website that's supposedly yours for a hot shot company. You need 100,000 hits to your site to make a profit this week. Since you've joined three new safelists you decide to send an email sales letter to each of them for the hot shot company first before you set up autoresponders for the other two affiliates you represent. First you download your email. In comes 137 messages from the latest safelist. Your mail program splits the screen so you don't have to open each piece to read. Unfortunately, you tend to read more of each than you would if you didn't see more than the heading. Halfway through you realize you're wasting time. You need to find a sales letter for your site. You go to the folder for that affiliate, copy your pass code, go to the main page, log in to the member area, then to the marketing page, then to email marketing, then read through the letters, choose one, copy it to your documents folder, fill in your ID and add a few personal notes, and voila! Microsoft Word crashes! You go back to reading email Fifty two more messages come in. You click on an ad for writing a killer sales letter that will "triple your responses". Only costs $27.00 for complete instruction. You buy and download. It's in pdf format. Your Adobe Reader has become corrupted and you can't open what you bought. So you download Adobe again. While that's happening you get a message that your virus protection needs updating. You ignore that, open your purchase to discover it contained nothing new plus a pitch for a $300 weekend seminar. Meanwhile 34 more messages have come in. You have to read the subjects, at least, before you delete in case one is a response to one of your ads. Suddenly you realize that the people on your safe lists are deleting your messages as fast as you're deleting theirs. What's the point? One subject header grabs you with, "Does your Safelist Read You?" Naturally, you click on a site that offers "secrets" of headline writing in provocative detail. You want to sign up for the course but it costs $500. Still, you bookmark the site. Back to email. Have to finish it then start your advertising campaign. You look at the clock and it's noon already. HOW TO AVOID THESE PITFALLS 1. Plan your advertising campaign before you boot up, or use a spreadsheet and plan it for the week 2. Be judicious in choice of safelists, use http://www.adtactics.com/index.php?ac=evycole and the new one from paypal: http://maximumheavytraffic.com/ecmop111/os.cgi or any through empowerism: http://www.empowerism.com/e/35260 3. Be wary at all times of the distractions of the Internet. They are insidious. 4. Write more and read less 5. Get feedback on what you write. You know more than you think.
