What You Need To Know About Email Viruses

What You Need To Know About Email Viruses
by Carrie Holmes

Today I am going to get my frustrations out in my ezine. My topic? Email Virus I can't even tell you how many emails I have gotten in the past week with an virus in them. Be advised that they don't always come in an attachment.

The one I was sent tonight was in plain text form. No attachment. I realize that people sending these virus/worms do not know that they have them. WHY NOT?????

If you are using a computer you should be as responsible as if you are driving a car. You affect other peoples lives. You can destroy a persons computer or make their life hell getting rid of the virus.

That person could be your friend, your mom, a business associate or anyone else you send email to. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR COMPUTER.

The virus I was sent the other day would send emails out to all your unopened mail received without your knowledge. So if your mom sent you her latest recipe for chicken soup and you hadn't opened it yet this virus would have sent her a reply email. She would have opened it thinking you were sending her thank you back or something and WHAM she is infected.

These viruses are getting worse and worse. You must protect yourself and others by getting virus protection. You are not only hurting yourself by not having it you are hurting others you email.

I have protection actually I have more than one program installed but it still aggravates me every time I get one of these. Not all virus email may be picked up on by your virus protection either. I had a email the other day that scanned clean but it was a virus nonetheless. I knew this because it had a file name and format of a letter I read with a warning. I did not open the attachment. I will not open attachments from anyone. Lo and behold I get a letter from the person saying don't open the email they were infected after I had already deleted it.

I am giving you a link here to read up on the current virus emails and worms going around. READ IT. It could be invaluable to you.

When you are done there if you don't have a program to see if you are virus free try this online version it is free:

Now go and get yourself some protection. Here is another online virus protect:http://www.grisoft.com Here is a link to the software outlet. I order from them all the time and had never had any problems. You place your order and you have your Norton disk within a week. Go to the Best Sellers column on the right and click on Norton Antivirus 2001 7.0. The cost is about $24 with shipping which is the best price I have seen it for. You can also go to your local electronics store and get it but you'll probably pay more. http://housecall.antivirus.com/housecall/start_corp.asp

While you are waiting go to CNET or ZDnet and download a shareware antivirus program. They have antivirus programs that you can download and try for 30 days for free. That should hold you until you buy a disk for it. Be Smart Get Protected.
