Up To Your Neck In Giants, Grasshoppers And Worry?

Have you ever been bitter because circumstances in your life looked bleak? Have you ever said, "I didn't do anything to deserve this?" Have you ever wondered why your luck was about as useful as a yard of pump water? For what it's worth, read on!

A Backhanded Compliment!

What would you say if I said "no matter what happens to you, those things are always in your best interest?" Maybe you would roll on the floor laughing. Maybe you would throw rocks at me. Maybe you would say Vegas; you're about two fries short of a happy meal.

Well, now wait a minute. Think about this. What is in your best interest? Do you know? Now be honest. Be practical and realistic. I don't think any of us believe that things have to always be a bed of roses at all times; Although six days a week might be ok. Hehe:>)

Things may get a little out of kilter at times and you might say, "that's just my dumb luck," but, the times when things really stink just seem to stay in our memory a lot longer than the wonderful times.

Here is a pretty good answer for anyone who thinks their life is as about as ugly as a mud fence. Any thing that happens to you which makes you more compassionate, empathetic, loving, and kind, to other people, is in your best interest.

Fouling Your Own Nest!

Listen to me. Success and victories in life do not make you compassionate to other people. If any thing, they make you more proud; more condescending and critical of other's short comings.

If your ego could talk, it would probably say something like, "After all, if I can succeed, by all of my hard work and effort, then this other person must be a lazy bum and not worth my time."

Do you sense the attitude in this? It is a self- sufficient attitude that says, look what I've done and look what you've done. It's an attitude that is full of pride and very little compassion for another person in trouble.

You may not be able to help the other person; their situation may be beyond your ability to help. But, you are setting yourself up for some similar troubles by being judge and jury of their situation even if you are doing it in your own mind.

What Goes Around Comes Around!

As difficult as it may seem, the problems of life are to shape our character and make us fruitful human beings. You may not feel very fruitful or look very fruitful when going through them, but they do a work inside of you what no amount of success and victory could ever accomplish.

Each trial or victory we face has a specific work to do in us. Some may say, well, "why do I have ten failures for every success?" It "could" be because you are refusing to learn a lesson. Every trial is nothing more than a test. Pass it and go on to the next one.

Remember the story of the Jews in the Old Testament wandering in the desert for forty years. Hey, it's a thirty day journey by foot to their destination from where they were. But, it took them forty years to get there.

Now, I don't know about you, and I'm no rocket scientist but forty years to take a thirty day journey is about as dumb as someone telling me that God is dead and Elvis is alive. I mean, how dumb can you get?

Stubbornness Is Not A Profession!

Well, what happened? Stubbornness!!They just wouldn't pass the stupid test. So they walked around a mountain for forty years crying, "oh how I wish I could find the promised land."

They had an advisor, Moses, and he told them what to do. i.e. he gave them the answers to the stupid test. But, they cried, "There's giants in the land and we're just a bunch of grasshoppers."

Well, guess what? It wasn't the giants that kept them out of the promised land; it was the grasshoppers! They wouldn't pass their stupid test even with the answers.

And, don't ask me, "how do I pass my test?" you know! Yes you do. Just do some soul searching and the answers will come to you. Life is not trying to keep any of us in the dark. Here are four personal things I've learned about tests.

Caught Red Handed!

When things are going wrong, I never look for someone else to point the blame at. Not anymore anyway. I have found that doing that, (blaming the giants), was one of the primary reasons I would keep failing a test and taking it over again.

I make a strong effort never to feel sorry for myself anymore. (thinking I'm the grasshopper), Life never leaves us with no way out. But, it many times does require us to search and search for the way out. It's not always easy to find.

I've learned that patience is a crucial key to passing a test. I've discovered that if I'm willing to wait forever it won't take very long. But, if I'm not willing to wait forever, it's going to take forever! (wandering forty years around the mountain). Being willing is the key.

Finally, I've learned to get it off my mind. Because I don't care how much I think about the giants, I can't make them go away any sooner. And, the more I think about them, the more I feel like a grasshopper. This is the most helpful thing I've learned. I cannot worry the giants out of my life any sooner. So why worry?

Faster Than A Comet!

Someone may say, "Well I'm not worried but I am concerned." Ok to be concerned. But, take this to heart. Concern should only last for five minutes. Then get it off your mind; any longer than that and you have flipped the coin back over and looking at the giants again.

But, for you chronic worriers, I'm going to give you two times when you should never worry. Any other time is ok. I've discovered there is only two times when a person should never worry. Only two!

Whenever you're in a situation you cannot change, and whenever you're in a situation you can change. If I can get rid of the giants, I do it so I don't have to worry. If I can't get rid of the giants, what's the use in worrying! You have permission to worry any other time.

Give It The Boot!

So, understand this. Worrying about the giants in your land is never in your best interest. And, it could be one of the primary reasons you stay on the back side of your desert wandering around that stupid mountain. Another reason is you don't allow the situation to develop the compassionate side of you. That's a biggie!
