These Golden Years!

You know, I can remember when I was forty years old, I would tell everyone I can't wait until I can retire and do the things I want to do.

One of those things was to play golf anytime I wanted to. I have always loved to play golf, but never had much time to play.

Those were my day dreaming days. About the time I hit fifty, my body said, you should have taken better care of me.

First it was two ruptured disk in my neck. I now have a plate, screwed to my spine to hold my head on.

I blamed this on the millions of miles, driving eighteen wheelers. Hitting some of the die doe's we had back then on the two lane roads.

Hitting those would toss you up against the roof of the cab, sometimes hurting down your spine.

Next it was a light heart attack and a five way bypass.

Next was a light stroke, that left my left side partly useless and numb.

Needless to say I can no longer play golf. The one thing I really wanted to do is gone.

I now spend my day's on this computer, for one reason that I am not able to do much else.

This started out as a way to keep my mind busy but it has turned out to be twelve to fourteen hours a day.

I forgot to mention that shortly after my heart attack, I was diagnosed with fibro myalgia. This fine disease causes more pain than can be imagined.

They think it is caused by a sudden trauma in a person's life. Mine being the heart attack.

I imagine you are all asking yourselves, what the heck does this have to do with marketing.

I am telling you this, to tell you, take some time to enjoy your life, and your family life also.

Get away from that computer, go for a long walk, take your family to a movie. Set yourself a time to shut your computer down, and let your body and mind relax.

My dad always told me, Vern you are running too many miles with no rest, and it is going to get you down.

I was like any other young man, I thought that will not happen to me. My dad was a lot smarter than me.

I am telling you all this in the hopes that you will take the word of an old man, and take care of your mind and body. Don't end up like me, I feel like a has been.

If you do nothing else today, plan time away from marketing, and everything will go better for you.

I am not crying the blues, whatever I must live with was caused by me and no one else. I only hope you will take my advice, and think of how you can do better for your body than I did.

I know a lot of my readers have their own health problems. All I am saying here, for the younger people reading this, take steps to take care of your body and it will take care of you.
