“Seven Questions For Your Publishing Success”---Part IV: What Purpose Will YOUR Ezine Serve?“Seven Questions For Your Publishing Success”---Part IV: What Purpose Will YOUR Ezine Serve? by Rev. Richard BoeckKnowing “who” YOU are, “why” it is YOU should do something, and “what” principles guide YOUR actions are crucial to any type of success. They are even more important when you deal in the area of information and ideas, because how YOU answer such questions determines how valuable your product is for the consumer. This leads to the next crucial question in reaching your publishing success, and that is “What Purpose Will YOUR Ezine Serve?” What Purpose Will YOUR Ezine Serve? As we noted in Part I of this series, we can extrapolate from a Google search for ezines, that there are at least 369,000 ezines on the internet. There are probably many more. Since there are so many out there, finding a purpose for YOUR ezine is extremely critical to your success. If you want to publish successfully, that purpose is going to have to be well-defined or you’ll just be one of hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of people who publish something on the internet. What Purpose Will YOUR Ezine Serve? This question again points to the single most important determining factor for success in any publishing effort—YOU! Publishing brings out your personality. It says something about “who” YOU are and “how” YOU think. It reflects YOUR “values” and YOUR “judgment” about what’s important for your readers’ benefit and success. So it’s essential that you nail down just exactly what field of endeavor or information you’re going to serve. Whatever that field of endeavor or information is going to be, it needs to be something YOU’RE passionate about, knowledgeable about, and excited about sharing. What Purpose Will YOUR Ezine Serve? If you’re an expert in the field of entrepeneurship, then it would make sense to publish an ezine related to such issues. In the same way, if you’ve got a passion for automobiles and how to fix them, then a publication that researches better ways to keep automobiles operating at peak efficiency would be in order. Harry Fassett and Dr. David Johnson, who co-publish the “Publish & Profit” ezine, have a passion for people and their success. They know a great deal about internet publishing, from coming up with the theme for an ezine or website, to researching and preparing worthwhile, truthful, and tested information for their readers. They have learned, through trial, error, and research some of the most effective ways of advertising and marketing on the internet. They’ve seen the scams, the much “ballyhooed and hottest new moneymaking fads” on the internet, and all the ways people can be misled into wasting their hard earned money and decided to help others avoid the traps and pitfalls the internet has to offer. What Purpose Will YOUR Ezine Serve? “Purpose” is a loaded word. YOU can have different types of “Purpose.” Your “purpose” can be to inform… It can be to excite and arouse… Or, perhaps, your “purpose” is to make people laugh… Or, to give them encouragement… Or, to help them discover their own potential. The list is endless. But, whatever “purpose” YOU decide upon, it must, above all things, be YOUR purpose, based on YOUR values, guided by YOUR beliefs, and focused on truthfulness and integrity. What Purpose Will YOUR Ezine Serve? In the end, the “purpose” for YOUR publication is not just going to be about a specific target idea, concept, market, or passion. It’s also going to be about YOU and how YOU choose to inform, communicate, and help others. The only way to be a successful internet publisher is to be YOU. Trying to copy someone else’s “purpose” will only lead to frustration and failure. YOU’RE a winner! Act like it! Find YOUR own “purpose” for publishing and for everything else you do, and YOU will be a success and those for whom you publish will reap the benefits. Oh, did I forget to say this? Yes, it’s true, I forgot… There is no greater, overriding purpose that needs to guide any endeavor than the purpose of helping others. If YOUR “purpose” for publishing an ezine leads to helping others, then you can’t help but succeed. That’s what makes WINNERS! ****************************************** Rev.
