Is Daycare For You?"Is Daycare for You?" By: Cyndi BeaucheminThe daycare profession has changed greatly over the years, with the majority of households requiring two incomes to survive. Due to these changes in our society, the demand for daycare has become one of necessity, rather than convenience. Women tired of "juggling" child and career are searching for a way to contribute to their families income, yet spend more time with their children. Many of these career women are leaving their positions to open home daycare centers. The decision to become a home daycare provider, is not one to be taken lightly. There are many things to consider before proceeding with the registration process and opening for business. One consideration is evaluating the skills you have to offer as a provider and business owner. As a quality childcare provider, you must possess patience, the desire to provide a safe, nurturing environment, and the ability to provide fun and educational activities. As a business owner, you must be able to follow a schedule, establish and implement the rules and policies you create for your home and business, maintain bookkeeping, attendance records, forms and emergency contact information and attend training necessary to obtain your certification. Another consideration is preparing your children for the changes that will take place in your home and family environment. If you do not have the support of your children and/or spouse, you may want to review other home based business options. By far one of the most important aspects of operating a home daycare is the careful screening of potential daycare families. This will allow you to create an environment that you want to welcome and enrich each and every day. Providing Home Daycare is a challenging but very rewarding occupation, but it's not the profession for everyone, is it for you?
