WOMEN’S PROGRAM FEATURED IN TIME MAGAZINETending Your Inner Garden, a program of personal growth, creativity, and spirituality developed by two Iowa women, is featured in this week’s cover story in TIME magazine. The program, founded by Diane Glass of Carlisle and Debra Landwehr Engle of Winterset, is part of an article about women in midlife. Tending Your Inner Garden is included in a section of the article called Guides for the Inner Journey. “Tending Your Inner Garden is designed to help women access their inner wisdom as a basis for making changes in their lives,” says Glass, a former marketing executive. “According to the TIME article, this approach resonates with women in mid-life.” In this stage of life, says the article, women tend to look inside themselves for answers and interests that have been dormant, then take their talents and abilities out into the world to make positive change. This mirrors the goal of Tending Your Inner Garden, Glass says. “The program is designed to help women deepen their relationships, gain a clearer sense of purpose, map out a new direction in life, and rekindle their talents and interests.” The TIME article has prompted inquiries from all over the country, says Engle, author of Grace from the Garden: Changing the World One Garden at a Time (Rodale 2003). “We’ve received dozens of e-mails and phone calls from women who would like to participate in the program or become facilitators.” As a result, Glass and Engle plan to expand the program outside central Iowa in the next several months.
