Getting Started: Narrowing Your FocusLast month we talked about getting started with your Internet business by joining affiliate programs. This month we’ll talk about starting your own business.The most popular product on the internet is -- information! There’s no inventory to stock and no shipping costs are involved. And people are interested in what you have to say. Think about what interests you. What do you like doing and talking about? Is it saving money? going shopping? using technology? fly fishing? collecting recipes? What are your hobbies? What’s your field of expertise? Look inside yourself - what can you talk about? Can you write about it? If you like to write, start a newsletter about fishing. If it’s a great newsletter - you can sell ads. If you already have a local business that caters to the fishing crowd, you can put your business on the web. If you don’t have a fishing business, you can still have a website. Offer your readers information about fishing - and link up with other fishing businesses to sell their products on your website. In subsequent articles, we’ll talk more about how to make these ideas work. For now, think about what interests you - and what will interest your readers and customers.
