Liberty's Proactive Resolution: How You Can Make It Yours"Liberty's Proactive Resolution: How You Can Make It Yours"By Randy Gilbert (c)2001 One morning I turned my calendar to December, as you probably did, and then closed my eyes to meditate on all that I'd accomplished during the year, and to pray and begin formulating my upcoming New Year's resolutions. Suddenly ... colors and sounds exploded as I recalled my first fireworks one Chinese New Year in Hawaii. Then my mind jumped across the years and I was standing at the water's edge of Governors Island, a Coast Guard Station in New York harbor, watching the most spectacular fireworks I had ever seen. I smelled the stench of sulfur as the rockets were launched from a barge just yards away. The brilliant showers of reds, whites, and blues danced with the music that was perfectly choreographed to draw out patriotic emotions. There was a crescendo of fire and noise and then, as suddenly as it had started, it all stopped. In my mind the smoke cleared and there in front of me stood the Statue of Liberty. As I gazed at it I noticed the ever-burning light of her torch. It wasn't bright or spectacular, but it shone there quietly, majestically. She represented true patriotism. No pomp and fanfare, just commitment. Silence and emotions filled the air. It was then that I heard that still small voice saying, "The light of Miss Liberty is far more inspiring than fireworks, because she has resolved to continually do what she said she would do." Miss Liberty's resolution is proactive. It has 3 keys that can bring us success and abundance, if we will but follow her example. Read on to see what they are. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Key #1 - Resolve To Do What You Said You Would Do ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Miss Liberty's resolution is the ultimate success strategy, summed up into one statement, "Resolve to do what you said you would do." It's simple, but it makes so much sense. You are acting responsibly when you do what you know is right to do. If you are married, then love your spouse through thick and thin. If you have children, then spend time with them and love them unconditionally. If you've decided to be healthier, then buy and eat the right foods. If you've decided to increase your income, then focus your attention only on those activities that increase your productivity. By following Miss Liberty's resolution, you will eliminate the biggest success gap in your life, which is the difference between knowing what to do, and doing it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Key #2 - Practice Back From The Future Thinking ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Put the 'noun form of resolution' first, so it represents the solution you are aiming for. Start by idealizing the perfect situation of what would make you the happiest. Next, visualize your ideal situation so it becomes crystal clear in your mind. Thirdly, verbalize it. When you do these three things, you will have a well-defined future vision. Now, from your future vision, begin to move back to the present time noting what had to be accomplished or changed in order to achieve your vision. Turn what has to be accomplished into tasks and goals for next year. By taking action on these goals you are practicing the 'verb form of resolution.' Miss Liberty's future vision is freedom for all people, and she has resolved to take action every day to bring it about. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Key #3 - Persistent Measurable Progress Is Best ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The saying goes, "Inch by inch it's a cinch, but by the yard it's very hard." Most good things take time. But, if you are willing to continually improve, little by little, then you will eventually reach your goals; it's a certainty. One of the key success factors for never giving up is to develop methods for measuring your progress, even if the increments are small. Also, create a way to reward yourself, daily if possible, for the progress you make. Miss Liberty knows, that if she tells her message to every visitor, the thousands who hear each day will add up to millions per year, and eventually, everyone will have heard it. My resolutions are different this year. The smoke and noise have cleared and it's the constant, courageous light of Miss Liberty's torch that inspires me to continually do the things that I know are right to do, and I will never give up until my ideal vision has been achieved. Miss Liberty's resolution is sure to bring success and abundance into the life of anyone who makes it their own ...
