Overcoming Hesitancy

OVERCOMING HESITANCY By Karin Peavy

When I first decided to start an online business, I spent a lot of time surfing and studying various opportunities, reading e-books and e-zine articles.

My head was soon swimming from advice and many different points of view. My confusion made me hesitant to take any action. Some said safelists work, some say they don’t. Some said FFA (Free For All) leads work and some they don’t. Who was I going to believe?

Then the fear of losing set in. What if I spent my time and hard earned money and received no results?

I went around in circles for quite a while until I finally realized I would NEVER make money if I wasn’t willing to make an investment. If I wasn’t willing to make an investment nothing would change. I’d stay stuck in the same financial rut.

After giving the situation further thought, I hit upon several factors that helped me get past my hesitation and alleviate the fear of risk:

#1 Everyone has their own unique path to success. Therefore everyone must be willing to put in the time and effort to find that path. Safelists DO work for some and DON’T work for others. FFA leads DO work for some and DON’T work for others. There are a lot of factors to consider when trying to guess why some mediums work for some and don’t work for others. However, you must be willing to try a variety of advertising mediums to discover what works best for you.

#2 A major key to making a business work is to find something you’re genuinely interested in AND something people want. If you have passion for your business, most likely you’ll stick with it for the long-term which is another major key to success. Being willing to hang in there is another major key to success. And of course if your offer is desirable you’re more likely to generate sales.

#3 Most internet programs/products are low-cost and therefore are low risk. Unlike many offline businesses/franchises, you don’t have to invest hundreds of dollars to start. You can start a business with $5 in some cases. Many affiliate programs run anywhere to $10 to $70 per month. Some programs even PAY YOU to join.

Advertising is also inexpensive. You can mail to safelists free (restrictions apply). You can purchase e-zine ad space from a co-op and have your ad run in several e-zines for one low cost. FFA pages are also free. If you want leads, a minimal cost is involved.

#4 All the expenses you lay out for advertising, monthly fees for staying involved with your program, etc. are tax deductible. If after marketing a program or product for several months using two or three advertising mediums you find you’re not getting good results, at least some of your money can be re-couped.

#5 Promoting any offer is a learning experience. Even if it doesn’t work out DON’T GIVE UP. You’ll have picked up valuable lessons you can apply to your next effort.

I know how scary stepping out into something new can be. Hopefully, I’ve given you reasons to step out anyway. Go for it!
