One Day Mini VacationsShort getaways can save the day from boring, exhausting everyday hum drum. Whether it’s late winter cabin fever or the draining hot days of late summer, a nice short trip can recharge you.The easiest "mini" mini vacation is the One Day Trip. View it as a vacation, anticipate it as a vacation and it will be one. One Day Trip Tips . . . Do the opposite. One day quick trips can be as refreshing as a week long vacation. The trick is to do the exact opposite of where you are right now: if you are hot, go someplace cooler. If it’s cold, go some place cozy and warm. If it’s noisy find a quiet, calm place. If it’s too quiet seek out noise and bustling crowds. For example, if it’s a hot August day head to a lake, a cool swimming pool, shady woods, or mountain elevations. Cooler libraries, museums, movie theatres and even malls can be a nice change. If it’s cold, head to a cozy resort with a fire place and a good book. Take a spa break and sit in a steam room or jacuzzi. A drive to the beach in the middle of winter is very exciting. Plan Very Little . . . Another secret to a great one day trip is to plan very little for it. Pick a spot and go. Grab what you need but better yet you can pick up anything you require at your destination. Shopping in new places can really be fun and a nice change. Stay with simple choices. No extremes or grand planning is necessary to make one of these day trips successful. Go For What's Close . . . The secret for a day trip is to stay close to home. Travel no more than an hour one way. Long trips can tend to sap your energy so keep it close to home. Have you really visited the next town? Walking Main Street and popping in and out of shops is a lot of fun. Keep transportation connections minimal. If you take a bus or train make sure when you get off you are just about there. A train to a bus to a subway to a bus can make the fun disappear pretty quickly. Add In A Meal . . . Wherever you go and whatever you do add in a meal at a restaurant. There is something special tied to dining out and a nice experience in a great ambience will put a nice finishing touch on your trip. Choose carefully and pick a special treat for yourself. I particularly enjoy arriving home after a day like this. I do this once or twice a year to supplement a vacation. I have even skipped a day of work once in a while to refresh my spirit like this over the years. Joyce Jackson travels and writes offering simple and easy travel tips for real travlers.
