It's summertime - at least in the Northern Hemisphere - and thoughts are turned to vacations and travel. Your goals and vision need not take a vacation, though.

In fact, what better time to recreate or envision your road to success than some well deserved downtime?

Along these lines, what will you take on your success journey? What personal attributes will you need to focus on in your pursuit of excellence? Here's my list:

Positive attitude - nothing diminishes our success more than a negative attitude. Remember, our thoughts create our reality. If you are consistently carrying a black cloud around your head, you'll only attract more people with more black clouds. Soon you have an ugly thunderstorm. Work on this. It is key to success. Every time you think 'oh, I can't do this', guess what? You can't. Your 'can't' is impressed upon the Universe and it ALWAYS delivers what you believe.

Reading material of what doesn't work - this is some of the BEST advice I've ever received. You need to pay attention to what the non-achievers are doing, reading, saying, thinking, and NOT DO IT. It's a personal checking system. Figure out what doesn't work for you, and don't do it. Challenge the status quo. Be in the top 5%.

Support - it'll get a little crowded in the ol' suitcase, however, everyone will agree, nobody gets to the top on their own. Your support includes your mentor(s), your mastermind group, friends who believe in you no matter what, family members who don't discourage you, and your immediate family with the time and attention they have sacrificed as you pursued your dreams.

Persistence - nobody gets ahead by giving up and nobody gets ahead by constantly changing direction. Choose your place, your truth, and stand in it, voice it, be where you are. Believe in your choice 1000% - no, that's not a typo! Believe in yourself.

Vision - take time, a serious contemplative session, or sessions, to formulate your vision. Determine exactly what you want and create powerful affirmations to help you get there. Having this vision, or a mission statement, is your road map. It'll make the persistence much easier to carry out.

Focus - focus on your vision statement regularly. Post it all over the house where you'll see it, leave it written on index cards in places you won't expect. I was looking through a basket of papers the other day, voila, a card with my vision statement appeared. Constant reminders such as this keep your vision in the forefront. It soon becomes second nature for you and it will effortlessly glide into place.

Balance - essential for success. All work and no play makes Susie a dull person. Success is all about balance. It's about attending to all areas of your life. Success in career only, for example, is tainted if the rest of your life is in shambles. Look at all aspects of your life - physical, nutritional, spiritual, social, career, parental, relational (your primary relationship). Determine goals for each realm and aim for a balanced, holistic life.

Silence/meditation practices - A real challenge as a mom with kids. Especially during summer break! Essential. Whatever it takes, find it. Silence will not only give you a break from the demands of your family life, it allows you to reconnect with spirit, with your essence. Speaking of essence...

Essence - work persistently and diligently on letting go of things/thoughts/beliefs that no longer serve the vision you have for yourself. Weed out the bad, incorporate the good. Think about these things as if your life depended upon it. It does.

Think about what will work for YOU. These are time tested attributes of successful people. Create your vision, determine the steps necessary to attain your goals, and persist with a positive attitude. Enjoy your journey and we'll chat at the top!
