Two Day Mini Vacations or Grab-N-Go'sTwo day mini vacations or getaways are what I like to call “Grab-n Go’s.”They are very refreshing little trips that can have benefits like a longer vacation. A change of surroundings can be pretty exciting especially in new places. The trick is going as soon as you get the urge and ride the wave of excitement right away. This means 15 minutes of preparation and off you go. Two day trips mean an overnight stay. The only preparation you have to do comes with your asking yourself “what do I need if I stay the night?” Keep it simple. Think toothbrush, toothpaste, minimal toiletries, clean underwear, and quick change of clothes. A small zippered bag is all you need to carry it all. If you like to take a number of these trips a year, keep a small bag in your closet just for this purpose. Stock it with a set of travel toiletries. I call this a “Grab-N-Go” bag. A quick grab, add a set of clothes and off you go. Keep a small folding umbrella, boots and hat and gloves near the same location. Heading to weather extremes should not keep you from going and extra packing time does not need to be added into the fun of a quick two day trip. Now that you can get up and go fast, where to go? You can plan a few days in advance but part of the excitement in these quick trips is to head someplace unexpected and new. Take a map and draw a 150 mile radius circle around your city. Look what falls in and around the circle. The distance of 150 miles will keep travel time to no longer than 2 hours one way. It also keeps transportation transfers to 2 or less if you choose not to drive. Pick towns, resort areas, parks, lakes, beach areas and mountains. If you live in a suburb of a large metropolitan area, try a night in the City. Take in a restaurant, a stroll through a public park or shopping area, a play or a museum. Instead of driving home stay in the City overnight and spend the next day as well. A trick you might try is to pick a destination that is the opposite of what you have everyday. Short “opposites” can be very refreshing simply because they are a complete change of pace. If you tend to be an outdoor type person keep your gear ready as well as a Grab-N-Go bag. If it’s ready then tossing it into the back of your vehicle can take 10 minutes. Food and supplies can either be bought near the campgrounds, on your way along the road or grabbed from home. The idea is minimal preparation and a focus on fun and a change of pace and scenery. Joyce Jackson travels and writes offering simple and easy travel tips for real travlers.
