Ad Tracking--Do or Die!We all place ads, but do we all track them??I am personally guilty of not tracking my ads all of the time, which is a BAD internet business practice. On the Internet, as business people we advertise our products or services in a variety of different places. We hope that we get a large response from every single one of our advertisements. Of course, there are many reasons why we do not. Our ads may be ineffective, our audience non-responsive or in the case of most FFA and classified websites, no one even sees our ads. Why Waste Time? It's a waste of time to advertise over and over again in places that do not give us a good response, plain and simple. That is why we should ALWAYS track our ad response. Or, at the very least, track our ad response when we advertise in new places or change our ads. How Do I Track My Ad Response? One way to track your ad response is to use one of the services below: Link Counter--Free Tracking http://www.linkcounter.com AdTrackz--One Time Fee, Uses Cgi Script http://www.adtrackz.com AdMinder--Monthly Fee http://www.adminder.com/ ProLinkz--Cgi Script that Creates, Disquises & Tracks http://www.prolinkz.com/ The Ultimate Ad Tracker--Lot's of Features http://www.ultimateadtracker.com/ ROIbot--Ad Tracking and Website Promotion http://www.roibot.com Another way that you can track your links is by setting up mirror pages. Use the same page that you use for say, "Product X" but change the URL slightly for each ad that you are trying to track. For example, your original URL is http://www.yourdomain.com/productx. For each ad you are trying to track change the URL slightly, like http://www.yourdomain.com/productx2. Now all you have to do is check your stats for each of these mirror pages to see what ads pulled the best response. Several of the programs listed above will do all this work for you, but some are costly. If you're on a tight budget and you have a good stats/counter program, you can do a decent job of ad tracking on your own. How Do I Optimize Ad Tracking? Here are two simple rules to follow when trying out new ads or placing ads in new places/publications. 1. Run Your Ad 3 Times in the SAME Place People sometimes need to see the same offer over and over again before they will act upon it. If after 3 runs, you still have low ad response either change your ad or run the same ad in another place. Low response usually means that either few people are seeing it or your ad needs to be reworked. 2. Try the Same Ad in a Few Different Places This way you'll know if your ad is good. If you keep getting low response rates from several different places, rework your ad. So, the moral of this article is to TRACK YOUR ADS! It's easy to do and a good business practice. And, it will save you time and money (and we all like saving time and money!).
