Top 20 Search Engine Placement. They Guarantee It. Or Do They...?
Top 20 Search Engine Placement. They Guarantee It. Or Do They...? by Carrie Holmes
I recently saw an ad for a search engine placement service. They do all the things needed to get you a top 20 placement in x amount of engines for the small fee of $1800. Note this fee does not include fees for joining engines like Yahoo. No, that cost another $199 on top of the $1800.
Ok. Besides a select few out there do we really have $1800 to throw away? Yes, if you have a top 20 in the engines your business can soar this is true. But are these guys going to give it to you? I am sure there are reliable companies out there that can do this for you in a legitimate way but be careful who you deal with.
You have to be careful to ask them : What search engines are we talking about? A Yahoo engine or a "Wow I have 10 readers type engine"? Will your top 20 be with your main keywords? How long will it take? What is my guarantee?
Example: If you sell shoes will you be listed in the top 20 under "shoes" or just under "red shoes" which wouldn't help your business a whole lot except maybe with people that like red shoes. Unless that is all you sell is red shoes, then you have a corner on the engines. Afterall how many shoe sites sell only red shoes? You could probably bag that keyword phrase easily.
Which is where the guy charging $1800 comes in. He can easily fix up your pages/tags to get you that top position for "red shoes" but where is he going to be when you have to do a home business site like many of us have?
Well I wrote an asked him. I was curious of the response. So I told him about my Homebased business site. I sell informative ebooks with a resource full membership site. Are you ready for his reply? (These are his direct quotes)
"With regards to our service, we generally don't take on sites like yours, due to the hyper-competitive nature of the home-based business industry. Because of the nature of our guarantee (timely results, and the fact that we really are not paid for the time that we don't have your site in guarantee status), we have to work many time harder to achieve fewer results. Our guarantee is just not structured for sites in your industry. Why? Because we like to make money easily - why make it hard on ourselves when we don't have to? We go for the low-hanging fruit.
But... we do offer a non-guarantee package that includes everything that we offer a regular client, but without a guarantee. And the cost is only $500 down and $100/mo."
Well blow me away I think I'll run out right now and give a stranger $500 right now. It sounds like a steal of a deal to me. How about you? Are you a low hanging fruit ripe for him to pick? Here was my reply: "In other words your site is a fake. Something that anyone can do for themselves if they just do a little reading hardly worth $1800 or $500 for that matter. Thank you for the enlightening emails and for your time."
(I'm glad to know its so easy)
Be careful to check out anyone that your going to hand over large sums of money to. See where their site ranks. Ask to see some sites they have worked on already or customers they have sold products to and write to the owners of those sites. Go to allwhois.com see how long their site is there for.
